"The Triumph of Artemisia" celebrates one of the most famous and skilled painters of the Baroque era. This one-of-a kind multimedia concert experience interweaves original songs, words, and stunning visuals to bring the story of Italian artist Artemisia Gentileschi to life. Smith's passionate and soulful style communicates the intriguing life story of the best known female artist in western art history before the modern era. Painting during the post-Renaissance era, Artemisia was the first woman accepted into the Academy of the Arts of Drawing in Florence, Italy, and the first woman to make a living solely by the brush. She was the only female follower of Caravaggio and celebrated and humanized mythological and biblical heroines. And she was befriended by the one of the greatest scientists of all time, Galileo Galilei.
